Optimizing Title Tag for Search Engine

In HTML code, the title tag implies the title of your Web page. It is the code which is inserted into the header of your web page. An internet surfer is not concerned with this HTML page. Title Tag is not a Meta Tag. Title Tags are displayed on the top of a browser window, and are often used as a link from search engine results listings. Title Tag should be between 5 to 12 words.

If you browse any website, click 'View' at the top of the web page. If you scroll down further, you'll get an option 'Source'. Click this and there appears a notepad in HTML code. You'll see title tag, which will look like the following:

In fact, the title could be anything, which highlights the core areas of a website. Title tag optimization is one of the most important steps to get higher ranking from SEO point of view. It is therefore necessary to develop a crisply worded Title Tag that includes your most relevant keyword phrases and performs the function of announcing the summary of your web page's content.

How to optimize your title tag?

Title Tag optimization holds its prime importance because search engines read content of the title and display your web page whenever a human searcher types keywords in search engines to find the relevant information. Therefore, it is necessary to make key-phrased title tag for better ranking. However, there are some do's and don'ts doing title tag optimization.

  • Put your keywords in the Title tag: Keywords in the Title tag enhances the relevance of your web page, when an Internet surfer searches the web with that keyword.
  • Keep the title tag short: Search engines don't prefer long Title tags. In fact, Google prefers short Title tags. It is always good to keep title tag in between 5 and 12 words.
  • Make you title tag as unique as possible. Try to make title tag unique, which immediately catches the attention of search engines and thus, a good ranking of your website becomes obvious.
  • Use different Title tags for different web pages in your site: Never give the same Title tag for all the web pages. The Title tag of a web page must be relevant for that page.
  • Withdraw yourself from giving your company name in the Title tag unless you think it will attract more users. Instead of putting your company name in the title tag, you can consider a suitable keyword, which ensures higher ranking of your website.
  • Never ever keep the Title tag empty in Meta Tags and never use irrelevant words in the Title tag. Irrelevant keywords or empty title tag will not help you in any case to get ranking in search engines.
Benefits of Writing Good Title Tag:

Pay utmost attention when writing your Title tag if your thinking about optimizing your title tag for better ranking. Don't ignore writing a good title tag. Title tag optimization is a powerful tool and must be used to your fullest advantage. Title tags help the search engines decide the theme of the web page being crawled for indexing. When a search for keywords is conducted, the Title tag is given heavy weightage by all search engine algorithms. Also remember, each page in your website should be unique and needs a different Title tag. Put the most important and relevant keyword phrase for that specific page in the Title tag, and the page will get a certain boost in the search engines.
